Not too long ago the idea of Japanese Whisky being compared favorably to Scotch was absurd. The Japanese made fine cars and electronic consumer items, but when it came to whisky the attitude was one of condescension. Yet Japan has boasted a whisky history dating back to the 1920s and has long been adept at distillation. Given time the Japanese would come to match the quality and consistency of the best Scotch distillers. Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky is a very unique spirit. The Coffey still is antique style column still, whose very shape separates itself in character and flavor from both the modern column still and the traditional Pot still. The grain used is primarily  is corn. Corn whiskies are at the base of all blended Scotch and on its own brings something very unique to the table. Full bodied and rich with an oily mouthfeel, flavors of peaches, mead, yellow fruits, vanilla and cinnamon with a sweetness that is similar in flavor to carnival candy without being sickly sweet. Though there is no age statement to this bottle the benchmark is whisky that is 8 – 12 years old.  乾杯   $69.99
